The first book in the Callaloo book series. “Callaloo: A Jazz Folktale” follows Winston, an 8-year-old Trinidadian-American boy from New York city, on his journey through the Caribbean island of Tobago.

Summary

Winston loves his aunt’s famous Callaloo, in fact, he loves it so much that one day he eats whole pot without leaving any for anyone else. Because of his greed, his aunt orders him to go to the local store to fetch more ingredients for another pot of Callaloo. While on the way to get the items his aunt requested, he is magically transported to the island of Tobago. On the island, Winston encounters a number of well-known folklore characters whose aim is to teach him a lesson about his greed, and that where things take an interesting turn. If Winston can learn his lesson in time, he will be transported back home, if not then he will be cursed to remain lost on the island.
